A college trip was organized for all the students of GRV BMA on 20th July 2022. They were taken to the famous trekking spot of the Malnad region, "The Kodachadri Hills". Kodachadri is a mountain peak with dense forests in the Western Ghats in South India (Shivamogga District, Karnataka), 78 km from Shivamogga. It is declared as a natural heritage site by the Karnataka Government, and it is the 13th highest peak in Karnataka. Kodachadri is the most beautiful of three mountain peaks of coastal Karnataka. (The other two are Kuduremukh and Kumara Parvata).
The trip began on 20th July at 7:00 PM. Two buses were arranged to take a total of 73 students from all the departments of all three years. Three faculties, Mrs. Kokila N, Ms. Suma and Mr. Vinod joined the students on the trip. All the students had a lot of fun during the journey. After a strenuous journey of battling the rain and broken roads, they reached their destination at Kodachadri by 7:00 AM in the morning. After reaching the place, a home-stay was arranged for the students to rest. Breakfast was provided to everyone after which all the students started their trekking journey.
Trekking to Kodachadri peak started from Nagodi village or Nittur, which is located at the base of Kodachadri. Tenting and campaigns are not allowed. Once you enter the check post in the foothill as this comes under the Forest Department, Govt. of Karnataka. Kodachadri peak is connected with an all-rough jeep road on which only jeeps can travel. As this hilly road is not maintained properly, only expert local jeep drivers could take the jeep to the top. Ten jeeps were arranged to take all the students to the top of the hill. All the students enjoyed the robustness and rash driving of the local drivers. Only a few reached the peak as they had to walk for 4 kilometers after the jeep journey to reach there. Upon reaching the peak, the experience was heavenly and indescribable.
After the trekking was over, the students were taken to the forests of Kodachadri. The thick forests of Shola covered Kodachadri, and the nearby hills and the place had a cool climate.
After the tireless and enlightening trekking, all the students came back to the home-stay, and a fire camp was arranged for their refreshment. Music was played to mellow the students down. Dinner was provided and the students took time to relax and enjoy the ambiance.
After the dinner was over, the students left Kodachadri and arrived back in Bangalore at 7:00 AM on 22nd July.
All the students had an exceptional experience trekking with their friends and had a whole lot of fun there. They learnt a lot about the heritage of the Malnad region and its beauty and experienced its richness live.
